La Casina, a former landed estate, is beautifully situated on a hill, overlooking the sea and the town of Castagneto Carducci, the historical pearl of the Maremma. From here you can see the full sweep of the plain and as far as the islands of Elba and Corsica.
A short walk takes you to the historical centre of Castagneto Carducci with its medieval, narrow lanes and old houses with their balconies and staircases decorated with flowers. Small, pretty restaurants and shops add an extra charm to the town.
Castagneto Carducci is situated at 194 metres on the hills of the Etruscan Riviera between Livorno and San Vincenzo. In 1862 Castagneto was named after the famous poet Giosue Carducci. You can visit his house as well as the Museo Archivio with copies of his writing.
Furthermore this small town is on the Wine Road of the Etruscan Coast with its doc rare wines. A few kilometres away from the property guests can also visit the famous village of Bolgheri with its vineyards (Sassicaia and Ornellaia).
The property is surrounded by a large estate with mature trees. The restoration has retained the original features of the old buildings which are dating back to the 17th century.
In the main building are twelve holiday apartments of various sizes and in an additional, smaller and very pretty house is another apartment (8), all furnished in the typical Tuscan country style and provided with own outdoor area, furnished with table and chairs for eating and relaxing in the open air.
Because of its hillside location the house provides apartments and their entrances on a variety of levels. The house is surrounded by pretty terraces connected by small winding steps.
As an alternative to trips to the seaside, guests can enjoy the beautiful swimming pool in the gardens.
The nearby, sandy beaches of Donoratico are within easy reach at just 10 minutes drive. Beach facilities including umbrellas, sunloungers and changing cabins are available (for a charge) at the “Cantiere Navale” of Donoratico and can be booked at La Casina.
This is an ideal location for those who wish to combine a seaside holiday with sightseeing trips to the famous Tuscan city arts such as Volterra 60 km, Pisa 80 km, San Gimignano 85 km, Siena 95 km, Florence 135 km.
